Since 1968,Yankee Glassblower Inc has formed successful partnerships with major industries and educational institutions through our commitment to high quality products and personal service. We were founded in 1968 as a hobby by William DeFlorio, who had blown glass since 1948. He chose the name “ Yankee Glassblower” as a result of a paperweight he designed for the Bicentennial which featured gold silkscreen of a Minuteman.
“I’ve enjoyed our association. If I ever have a need for scientific glassware in the future, I will be sure to contact you…The quality of your work is exceptional.” Joseph M Thomas, Research Chemist, Wentworth Institute of Technology”
William DeFlorio
Founder
As founder of Yankee Glassblower , William had extensive experience in production and development. He was an associate Glass Engineer at GenRad working on the Rubidium Clock project and assisting in the design and fabrication of photomultiplier tubes at SchlumbergerWell Surveying. He consulted on atomic clocks for both Varian and Litton Industries. He devoted his full time to Yankee Glassblower in 1977 working until after his 82 nd birthday every day. He published “High Conductance Bakeable Magnetic Valves” in Fusion Journal of The American Scientific Glassblowers Association in 1970.
In 1977 he wrote “Isolation of Alkali Metals in a vacuum system using a high conductance bakeable magnetic valve in Proceedings of the 22nd annual Symposium of Scientific Glassblowing.
Patrick DeFlorio
President
After finishing high school Patrick attended a vocational school for machine shop for 2 years. He is a graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology and has bee working full time at Yankee Glassblower since 1982. He has taken courses at Massachusetts College of Art and Urban Glass and has attended and instructed workshops at ASGS Symposiums. Patrick’s specialized background gives him the unique skills necessary to design custom glass parts and the fixtures needed to produce them.
Patrick is active in the American Scientific Glassblowers Society, currently Director of the Northeast Section and the Safety Chair for the society. Member of the British Scientific Glassblowers Society since 2002.
Environmental Policy: We do not use hydrofluoric Acid to clean quartz. We recycle convoluted foam and chip board packaging, some of which has been in use for over 5 years.
